Debi Mazar defends Madonna against online hate over physical appearance

Debi Mazar, longtime friend of Madonna, has shown her support for the pop icon as she continues to face criticism online over her physical appearance. In an interview with Page Six, the Goodfellas star advised people to not pay attention to the “noise” and to focus on what’s important.

Mazar said, “I don’t pay attention to any of it. I think Madonna is beautiful and I don’t pay attention to what people say about me or about anybody.” She added, “Everyone [on the internet] has an opinion these days and the only way really to survive, only the strong survive, is not to hear all the noise.”

Madonna has been the subject of criticism on social media after her appearance at the 2023 Grammys. In February, the Material Girl hitmaker took to Instagram to address the ageism and misogyny that she has faced throughout her career.

In her post, Madonna wrote, “Once again I am caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny that permeates the world we live in. A world that refuses to celebrate women pass [sic] the age of 45 And feels the need to punish her If she continues to be strong-willed, hard-working, and adventurous.” She also expressed her desire to pave the way for future generations of women.

Mazar’s words of support for Madonna come at a time when many celebrities are facing backlash for their appearances, with social media users often feeling entitled to comment on their looks. However, Mazar’s advice to tune out the negativity and focus on the positive is a valuable reminder for everyone.

In a world where opinions are easily shared online, it’s important to remember that the most important opinion is the one we have of ourselves. As Mazar said, “the only way really to survive, only the strong survive, is not to hear all the noise.”
