It is famous in people that an apple a day keeps the doctor away and quite rightly so.
In fact, the habit of eating fresh fruits and vegetables helps to ameliorate the health of cases with type 2 diabetes, but also prevents blood sugar from rising.
A study published in the Journal of Nutrition found that patients with type 2 diabetes and high blood sugar who ate just one apple a day or consumed an additional amount of other fruits or vegetables lost their body weight, while losing weight. Cholesterol is also reduced.
“We know that a balanced diet is the key to good health, but very few people eat adequate amounts of fruits and vegetables,” said researchers from Australia’s George Institute.
For this study, 50 type 2 diabetes patients were recruited and given a healthy diet for 12 weeks.
