The Election Commission’s decision is unconstitutional, PTI has reached the Supreme Court

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has challenged the Election Commission’s decision to postpone the elections in the Supreme Court.

On Saturday, Barrister Ali Zafar filed the petition on behalf of Asad Umar, Sabatin Khan and other PTI leaders.

Election Commission, Federal Government and other institutions have been made parties in the application.

The Election Commission postponed the Punjab Assembly elections on March 22 and fixed the election date on October 8.

The position adopted in the petition is that the Election Commission’s decision to postpone the elections is ‘illegal and unconstitutional’.

PTI has requested that the court order all the stakeholders to cooperate with the Election Commission and hold the elections on April 30.

The Election Commission had issued an official order regarding postponing the elections in Punjab.

The order said that in the light of the reports submitted by the law enforcement agencies, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Interior and the Chief Secretary Punjab, the commission has come to the conclusion that the election was transparent, fair, honest and peaceful. And it is not possible to conduct according to law and constitution.

However, last Friday, President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi said in a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that the Prime Minister should direct the relevant authorities to assist the Election Commission in conducting elections on time.
